Swire Properties (SPL) and the Building Energy Research Centre of Tsinghua University have established a Research Fund for Building Energy Efficiency: Integrated Design and Management. SPL will offer initial funding of up to HK$2.5 million per annum for three years starting from 2010 for the research fund, which will help build channels for collaboration and study "Integrated Design and Whole-process Management of High Efficiency Buildings". The research will be conducted at three of SPL's projects in Mainland China. At Sanlitun Village in Beijing, energy efficiency will be improved by introducing "green" features such as solar energy facilities and through enhancing natural light to lower ground levels. Studies will also be undertaken at the Jiang Tai Project in Beijing and TaiKoo Hui in Guangzhou, which are currently under design and construction. The research findings will enable informed decisions to be taken to ensure energy efficient solutions to the projects' overall design, thereby setting higher energy saving targets to guide their future operation and maintenance. The first research fund between the two parties was set up in March 2008 and research was conducted at The Mall at Pacific Place in Hong Kong, where a total energy saving of 9 million kWh electricity was achieved over two years - equivalent to a reduction of 6,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions or the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed annually by 400,000 trees.   [ Details ]

Swire Properties has released details of its latest residential development, 5 Star Street, Admiralty, Hong Kong. Building on the success of neighbouring StarCrest, 5 Star Street is SPL's latest premium development in the stylish new Star Street precinct. Each of the 25 apartments at 5 Star Street is located on its own floor and equipped with a balcony and full-height glazing. Residents will also have access to leisure amenities at the sky garden and clubhouse. The property will be managed by Swire Properties. SPL has also proposed to the Hong Kong SAR Government a HK$20 million project to further revitalise the Star Street area, by enhancing the surrounding public spaces. Star Street is just one street from SPL's Three Pacific Place, which has direct linkage to Admiralty MTR Station and close to SPL's Tai Sang Commercial Building redevelopment project. On completion of Tai Sang, the total gross floor area of Grade-A office space owned by Swire Properties in the Admiralty district will reach approximately 2.3 million square feet. 5 Star Street is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2010.   [ Details ]

The total project investment in TaiKoo Hui exceeds RMB 5 billion.
