Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO) is committed to supporting the training and development of maritime talent in the communities that support its business. The company is currently sponsoring maritime students under Singapore Maritime Foundation's (SMF) MaritimeONE scholarship programme. The graduates will have the opportunity to join SPO as Management Trainees.
SPO also sponsors the annual Swire Pacific Offshore Bursary at Nanyang Technological University, supporting two students with disabilities or from underprivileged backgrounds to undertake engineering or maritime studies. In 2014, SPO committed to supporting the new Maritime Economics Concentration course, jointly developed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and Singapore Management University, over its inaugural three years.
In the Philippines, SPO has been working with the Propeller Club in Manila to deliver 15-month residential training courses. To date, SPO has assisted 175 underprivileged youths to acquire maritime skills. SPO also sponsors cadets from the Regional Maritime University in Accra, Ghana. This initiative provides a pool of Junior Officers for SPO's fleet in West Africa.
