|For Immediate Release||14th January 2021|
Swire Pacific Limited is pleased to announce that the company, along with its subsidiary, Swire Coca-Cola Limited, has secured a place on CDP's A List for action and transparency in water stewardship.
CDP is a global non-profit that leverages investor and buyer power to motivate companies and governments to disclose and manage their environmental impacts. CDP's annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognised as the global gold standard for corporate environmental transparency. In 2020, investors with assets totalling over US$106 trillion requested thousands of companies to disclose data on environmental impact, risk and opportunities through CDP's platform.
More than 5,800 companies around the world responded to CDP's questionnaire in 2020. Swire Pacific and Swire Coca-Cola are among 106 companies that received top scores and are the only companies in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland to be included on the water security A List.
Mark Watson, Group Head of Sustainability, John Swire and Sons (H.K.) Limited said: "Water security is one of the top global risks identified by the World Economic Forum and the UN predicts a 40% shortfall in the global water supply by 2030. Our businesses depend on a stable supply of clean water, and we recognise the role we play in protecting this valuable resource for the future of our businesses and for the communities we serve. Water is one of the priority areas under SwireTHRIVE, the Group's strategy for sustainable development. This is the first time we have responded to CDP's water security questionnaire and we are delighted to have earned a place on the A List."
Karen So, Managing Director of Swire Coca-Cola Ltd said: "Swire Coca-Cola Ltd is the largest user of water among the operating companies of Swire Pacific. Furthermore we are the 5th largest bottler within the Coca-Cola System, and operate across four territories with diverse geographical environments. As such it is imperative that not only do we manage this delicate resource to the highest standards, but that we also transparently report on all aspects of how we do this".
Pratima Divgi, Director - Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, CDP, said, "CDP congratulates corporate environmental leaders Swire Pacific and Swire Coca-Cola for achieving the highest ranking on CDP's water A List for the first time. Ensuring equitable access to water, both in terms of quality and quantity, remains a key challenge in many Asian economies and companies play a critical role in addressing water security issues in this region. Businesses leading on environmental action ensure that their own operations and supply chains remain resilient to the challenges of climate change, while making an important contribution to our sustainable future."
Swire Pacific is committed to being a responsible steward of water resources: by facilitating the sustainable management of the water catchments we draw from; by using water responsibly and sustainably, and by ensuring that wastewater is discharged back into the environment in a clean and safe condition.
