Philanthropy

Philanthropy

Since the past centuary, Swire has been an integral part of Hong Kong, with its diverse businesses contributing to the long-term development of the communities and societies in which they operate. Philanthropy is deeply embedded in Swire’s core values, reflecting a commitment to creating positive and lasting impact.

At the Group level, Swire’s philanthropic efforts are centred on two key pillars - The Swire Group Charitable Trust (Swire Trust) and Swire Scholarships and Professorships.

The Swire Group Charitable Trust

Established in 1983, Swire Trust serves as the philanthropic arm of Swire Pacific Limited. It is a Hong Kong-registered charity under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, and is governed by a Philanthropy Council comprised of senior leaders of the Group. The Trust receives annual income from Swire Group companies in Hong Kong, enabling it to support a wide range of charitable projects that address pressing social and environmental needs.

Support in Education
Taikoo Primary School (TPS) was founded in 1923 by the Taikoo Dockyards and Machinery Company Limited, marking over a century of history. In 1947, it became an aided primary school, further strengthening its commitment to education.

In line with the school's development, Swire Properties financed and developed a fully-equipped Millennium School building. To this day, the Swire Trust continues to provide annual funding, supporting innovative initiatives that enhance teaching and learning.

As the School Sponsoring Body, the Swire Group actively leverages its resources and expertise to enrich students' learning experiences through strategic partnerships. Collaborations with various Swire Operating Companies expose students to real-world applications, fostering a deeper understanding beyond the classroom.

Swire Scholarships and Professorships

Swire has a long history of educational sponsorship. We believe that giving young people a chance to build a better future for themselves is one of the best ways to give back to the communities that have helped our businesses grow and prosper.

Our commitment to education dates back to the early 1900s, when Swire contributed £40,000 towards the establishment of the University of Hong Kong. The Taikoo Professorship of Engineering was established in 1919, becoming the first named professorship at the University.

Today, the Swire Group supports a broad range of scholarship programmes worldwide at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For more information about the current scholarships, please visit the Swire Scholarships and professorships page.
