Cathay Pacific Airways today announced a new code-share arrangement with LAN Peru that will add Lima, the capital city of Peru, to its network and further enhance the airline's coverage in Latin America. This is the fourth Latin American destination to be added to the Cathay Pacific network in 2010, providing passengers with more choice and greater connectivity.
The new arrangement will be effective from the first departure from Peru on 13 December, subject to government approval, and flights are already open for sale for travel from that date.
The code-share will see the "CX" code go on LAN Peru's flights between Lima and two of Cathay Pacific's North American gateway cities: Los Angeles and San Francisco. At the same time, LAN Peru's "LA" code will be placed on Cathay Pacific services between Hong Kong and the two US gateways.
Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Tony Tyler said: "We first entered the Latin American market in May this year through a code-share with LAN Airlines and we are pleased to be able quickly to expand our coverage in this increasingly important market through our oneworld partners. We are confident this new arrangement will further enhance business and tourism ties between Latin America and Asia."
LAN Chief Executive Officer - Passenger, Armando Valdivieso, said: "In May 2010, we initiated a code-share with Cathay Pacific to operate between Santiago, Chile and Hong Kong through connections in Los Angeles, New York and Auckland. Now, with this new agreement between LAN Peru and Cathay Pacific, we hope to substantially enhance our competitive position within the Latin American market."
LAN Peru is a subsidiary of LAN Airlines and an affiliate member of the oneworld alliance, of which both Cathay Pacific and LAN Airlines are full members. oneworld now offers passengers a combined network of more than 750 destinations worldwide.
