Cathay Pacific Welcomes New Air Services Arrangement Enabling Flights to Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport

Cathay Pacific Airways today welcomed the announcement by the HKSAR Government that the Hongqiao International Airport in Shanghai will be added as a destination for scheduled air services between Hong Kong and the mainland of China.

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Tony Tyler said: "Shanghai is a very important destination for Cathay Pacific and Dragonair. We welcome the new arrangement as it will offer airlines more opportunities to further enhance services between the two cities that will benefit passengers from all over the world. The new arrangement will also help to ensure Hong Kong retains its position as one of the world's leading aviation hubs."

Mr. Tyler commended the Civil Aviation Administration of China and the Transport and Housing Bureau of the HKSAR Government for putting in place the new arrangement. "As Hong Kong's home carrier we are committed to linking mainland China to the world, and we applaud the Government's efforts to further enhancing air services between Hong Kong and the mainland of China," Mr. Tyler said.

Cathay Pacific currently operates three flights daily between Hong Kong and the Pudong International Airport in Shanghai.
