Swire Announces Change of Chairmen

Effective 1st January 2005, Mr. James Hughes-Hallett has taken up a new role in London as Chairman of John Swire & Sons Ltd in succession to Sir Adrian Swire. Mr. David Turnbull has succeeded him as Chairman of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Ltd., Swire Pacific Ltd. and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. Mr. James Hughes-Hallett remains a Non-Executive Director of Swire Pacific Ltd. and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd.

Mr. Turnbull, aged 49, joined the Swire group in 1976 and has worked with the group in Australia, Dubai, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Hong Kong. He has been an Executive Director of Swire Pacific Ltd. since November 1996 with responsibility for the Aviation division. He was appointed Managing Director of Cathay Pacific in December 1996 and has been Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of the airline since July 1998. He is also Chairman of Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited, a Director of Swire Properties Limited and a Non-Executive Director of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.

Mr. Keith Kerr has succeeded Mr. Hughes-Hallett as Chairman of Swire Properties Ltd. Mr. Kerr, aged 51, also retains his positions as an Executive Director of Swire Pacific Ltd. and Managing Director of Swire Properties Ltd.
