Swire Properties today hosted a street party to commemorate the Company's 40th anniversary of its establishment in Hong Kong. Held at Island East, where the company was founded in 1972, the "Happy 40th Street Party" was a festive affair featuring live entertainment from local and international performers, games and a charity sale.
With a theme of giving back to the community, the street party raised funds from the sale of limited edition T-shirts designed by Hong Kong artist Tania Willis, a raffle ticket sale for a Fiat 500 BiColour, proceeds of sales from food and beverage companies, and other activities operated by pay-what-you-wish donation. Public donations raised at the event were matched dollar-by-dollar by Swire Properties. Combined with a series of internal fundraising events and direct donations associated with this special anniversary celebration, Swire Properties targets to raise a total of HK$500,000 for two charitable organisations, Operation Santa Claus and Habitat for Humanity China.
"Forty years is not a short time, but it is not incredibly long either, considering how we have grown into a household name in Hong Kong and beyond." said Martin Cubbon, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, during the opening ceremony. "Swire Properties' reputation is based on far more than its buildings - we are also known for the long-term value we create for the communities we serve. We recognise ourselves as a valued member of a wider community, and so it made perfect sense to share our milestone celebration with the public. We're delighted to have the opportunity to enjoy a fun afternoon together and support some meaningful causes."
The "Happy 40th Street Party" was open to the public, and visitors had a chance to enjoy an array of fun activities, performances and food booths lined up along Tong Chong Street, including art and handicraft, fun and games for all ages. Live performances included Flipz, a local dance group led by former representatives of the Hong Kong Gymnastic Team, local band Hi-Tone and Metro, an acclaimed A Cappella vocal group. All game activities were operated by pay-what-you-wish donation. Swire Hotels and other food and beverage companies supported the event by creating special menus to serve visitors and donating 10% of the proceeds from their sales. Swire Properties' Community Ambassador also showed their volunteer spirit by participating at the street party.
