Swire Properties Renames Beijing Sanlitun Village as "Taikoo Li Sanlitun"

Swire Properties announced today the new name of "Taikoo Li Sanlitun" (三里屯太古里) for its prestigious Beijing Sanlitun Village mixed-use development.

"The incorporation of 'Taikoo' - Chinese for Swire - in our Sanlitun Village development underlines its importance as the latest in a long and distinguished line of exciting Swire Properties' products like TaiKoo Hui in Guangzhou and Pacific Place and Cityplaza in Hong Kong," said Guy Bradley, Swire Properties' Chief Executive Officer - Mainland China.

"The new name of Taikoo Li also allows instant recognition of Swire Properties brand for both local and international visitors and possesses the potential for wider application across the country.

"It recognises Swire Properties' successful creation of the Sanlitun project, which has already become a Beijing icon through the unique lifestyle experience it offers the capital city since it opened five years ago," Bradley added.

Swire Properties' Taikoo Li Sanlitun, formerly known as Sanlitun Village in Chaoyang District, Beijing, showcases the Company's innovative brand strategy formulated specifically for the Mainland China market. Taikoo Li Sanlitun is an example of the process of creative transformation for which Swire Properties is well known. Taking a district famous as an entertainment area, Swire Properties has added a retail dimension while respecting local heritage. Taikoo Li Sanlitun offers a unique and exciting leisure experience that is derived from the range of F&B, lifestyle and fashion choices at the centre.

"'Li' (里) rides on a long history of city planning in China and is similar to the 'lanes' concept in Western culture. To us, 'Li' also represents the open-plan, lane-driven architectural design of our Taikoo Li Sanlitun, one that is based on the traditional hutong and siheyuan concepts," added Bradley.

Taikoo Li Sanlitun was Swire Properties' first commercial property to open for business in the Mainland China market in 2008, along with the first Swire Hotel, The Opposite House. Latest addition to the 1,470,000-sq ft centre's brand mix includes Asia's first 24-hour Page One & The Woodhouse concept store, M.A.C's biggest flagship store in China, Asia flagship store of Miu Miu, and I.T Beijing Market's biggest outlet in Beijing. Taikoo Li Sanlitun has also introduced Greyhound Cafe and Wang Jia Sha - two renowned F&B brands to Beijing. More international brands, such as Hollister, Paul Smith and isola, will open their new stores at Taikoo Li Sanlitun in the near future.
